Job Title: Joint Use / Make Ready Engineer

📍 Reporting Location: Hexad Birmingham – 1500 1st Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203 | Full-Time

Position Overview

We’re seeking a detail-oriented Joint Use / Make Ready Engineer to support our growing demand for utility pole attachment design and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of NESC and GO95 standards, permitting processes, and the intricacies of aerial infrastructure design. You’ll work closely with our design, permitting, and QA teams to deliver high-quality, construction-ready make ready packages.

Responsibilities

• Conduct utility pole audits using field data, photos, and GIS-based tools

• Identify and resolve clearance and code violation issues per NESC/GO95 and local standards

• Create detailed Make Ready Engineering (MRE) documentation and Pole Load Analysis (PLA) reports

• Coordinate with pole owners, permitting agencies, and design teams

• Support timely and accurate joint use permitting submissions

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in Joint Use / MRE or telecom pole engineering

• Working knowledge of NESC (and GO95 in California if applicable)

• Deep familiarity with PLA tools (O-Calc, PoleForeman, Spidacalc, etc.)

• Experience reading construction drawings and utility maps

• Strong attention to detail and documentation

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
